Requirements

  • A webshop integration that passes abandoned carts to Xendy:
    • WooCommerce: the Xendy plugin active in WordPress and connected to your Xendy token.
    • Lightspeed: the two Xendy code snippets placed in your webshop.
    • Magento 2: works through the integration itself, but only for logged-in customers.
  • Shopify does not support abandoned cart tracking.

Create an automation

  1. Go to Email automations in the left menu and click New automation in the top right.
  2. Choose From a new segment, select Dynamic and give the segment a name, e.g. Abandoned cart. Click Create segment.
  3. Choose Periodic and click Create email automation. (Immediate is not available for a dynamic segment; Xendy checks every day at the configured Execution time which contacts have an abandoned cart.)
  4. Set the filter rule Customer field: has abandoned cart via Filter rules and click Save.

A cart counts as abandoned when at least 3 hours and no more than 24 hours have passed without any changes being made to it.

Add emails to the workflow

After creating the automation, click Add step 1. You can choose from:

  • Blank email: create a completely new email without email blocks.
  • Choose template: copy an existing template from Templates in the left menu.
  • Choose draft: move an email from your drafts to this automation.

Then add the Shopping cart of contact block: click the plus icon in the email and select this block (only visible with a connected webshop). The block automatically displays the abandoned items and a button that takes the customer back to your webshop; for WooCommerce and Lightspeed, the shopping cart is also restored.

Commonly used structure:

StepTimingContent
Email 1No delay (sent with the next daily execution)Reminder + abandoned items + checkout button
Email 2After 1 daySoft incentive (e.g. 10% off or free shipping) + checkout button
Email 3After 2-3 daysLast chance / low stock / offer ending

Use the plus and minus icons between the steps to set the delay in days; for each step you also set the send time.

Activate and manage the automation

  • Open the automation and set the status to Active; you can pause it by setting the status to Inactive.
  • Via Settings you can adjust the Execution time of the daily check and the Revenue attribution. This is only possible when the automation is not active.

View statistics

Go to Email automations in the left menu and click on the automation to open it. For each step you can see the following statistics:

  • Queue: the number of scheduled emails that will be sent in the future.
  • Sent: total number of emails sent.
  • Opened: number of unique recipients who have opened the email.
  • Clicked: number of clicks on a link within the email.
  • Unsubscribed: number of contacts that have unsubscribed via the unsubscribe link.
