Creating an automation

  1. Go to Email automations in the left menu and click New automation in the top right.

  2. Choose From a new segment.

  3. Choose Dynamic, give the segment a name (for example Customer reactivation) and click Create segment.

  4. Choose Periodic, so that Xendy checks daily which customers fall within this segment, and click Create email automation. (Immediately is not available for a dynamic segment.)

  5. Set the following rule via Filter rules and click Save:

    • Field: Order: last order
    • Condition: falls outside
    • Value: for example 100 (days)

This segment contains all customers who have not made a purchase within this period.

Adding emails to the workflow

After creating the automation, click Add step 1. You can choose from:

  • Empty email: create a completely new email without email blocks.
  • Choose template: copy an existing template from Templates in the left menu.
  • Choose draft: move an email from your drafts to this automation.

A commonly used structure for a reactivation workflow:

StepContent
Email 1Friendly reminder of your brand or new products
Email 2An incentive, for example a discount or free shipping
Email 3Urgency, for example "Valid for 24 hours only"

Use the plus and minus icons to set the number of days between steps, for example 3 days between email 1 and 2.

Activating and managing the automation

  • Open the automation and set the status to Active to start it. You can pause it by setting the status back to Inactive.
  • You can only change the settings when the automation is not active.
  • Via Settings you can adjust the Execution time of the daily check, and under Revenue attribution the percentage and the period for the revenue calculation.

Viewing statistics

Go to Email automations in the left menu and click on the automation to open it. For each step you can see the following statistics:

  • Queue: the number of scheduled emails that are yet to be sent (for example due to a configured delay).
  • Sent: total number of sent emails.
  • Opened: number of unique recipients who opened the email.
  • Clicked: number of clicks on a link within the email.
  • Unsubscribed: number of contacts who unsubscribed via the unsubscribe link.

Frequently asked questions

A customer reactivation email automation is a pre-configured workflow that automatically sends emails to customers who haven't made a purchase in, say, 90 or 120 days. It helps you put your brand back on their radar and encourages customers to come back.
