How the editor is structured

The editor works with rule groups. Within a group you choose at the top whether a contact needs to meet all conditions (AND) or at least one condition (OR). If you have multiple groups, they're always connected to each other with OR — a contact that meets any one of the groups will be included.

Each group has at least one row. You add a new group using the "Add new group" button at the bottom of the editor.

Adding a filter rule

  1. Click the field selector in an empty row. A dropdown opens with a search bar at the top — you can search by field name or keyword.
  2. At the top of the list you'll see the "Frequently used" block with the 5 fields your company has selected most recently.
  3. Fields are grouped by category. Categories for which a connection is missing (for example Order data without a webshop connection) are locked and show an explanation with a link.
  4. Fields with a low fill rate (fewer than 5% of your contacts have a value) are displayed dimmed.
  5. Choose the field, then select an operator and enter the value. Which input type appears depends on the field:
    • Text: free text field with suggestions.
    • Date: dropdown calendar, displayed as DD-MM-YYYY.
    • Days (e.g. "within the last X days"): number field with quick selections (7, 30, 90, 365 days) and a concrete date translation.
    • Select: searchable dropdown, sometimes with group headings.
    • Product with period: product selection plus "Ever" or "In the last … days". With Purchased product you can type a (partial) product name yourself instead of only selecting a product from the list. If the typed text is not yet in the list, an option appears to use that free text — confirm with Enter or click it. With Purchased category/product group it works the same way for category names. Below both fields there is an explanation describing how the filter uses the typed text. If your webshop has its own date fields on the order line (such as a delivery date or course date), an additional optional date condition appears with a product filter. This lets you filter by product and date within the same order line — for example "purchased course X and the course date is 1–14 days from now". The date condition has its own operator and value field, with the same input options as standalone date filters (day presets, range, date picker). You can remove the date condition using the button next to it. The order date itself is not included here; you set that using the existing period selection.
    • List: multiple values, one per line.
  6. Next to each row you can see live how many contacts match that specific row.

If you leave a row incomplete and try to save (or navigate away from the row), the row turns red and a specific error message appears such as "Choose a date" or "Enter a number".

Managing rules and groups

Each rule has three buttons:

  • Duplicate — makes a copy of the rule in the same group.
  • Enable/disable — temporarily turns off the rule without deleting it.
  • Delete — removes the rule immediately.

For each group you can use the button in the group header to duplicate or delete the entire group. For a group that has content, the editor asks for confirmation before deleting it.

If you want to restore previously saved rules, use the "Restore previous version" option. This requires two clicks to confirm.

Using starter templates

If the editor is still empty, you'll automatically see a gallery of commonly used filter templates. The templates are displayed in a grid of 2 to 3 columns. Click a template to instantly fill the editor with its corresponding rules. Templates that require fields that aren't available in your account won't be shown.

Saving and checking the result

Above the save button you'll see a live counter showing the number of contacts that currently match the rules you've set. Using the "View examples" button you can open a dropdown showing up to 5 real contacts (name and email address) that match the rules.

Once you've made changes, a sticky bar with the save button appears at the bottom of the page. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, you'll get a warning.

After saving, a modal opens showing the progress:

  1. Saving — the rules are written.
  2. Processing — the modal checks every 2 seconds (for up to 90 seconds) whether the AI description and calculated reach are ready, and shows them as soon as they're available.

If you get a warning that the audience has 0 contacts or covers 95% or more of all your contacts, you can use the "Adjust rules" button to go straight back to the editor without leaving the page.

Exclusion rules work the same way, but the text in the editor is adjusted: instead of "Select customers who match:" it says "Exclude customers who match:".

Frequently asked questions

Locked fields belong to a category that requires a missing integration in your account, for example Order data when no webshop is connected. Next to the locked field there's an explanation with a link to set up the integration.

A dimmed field has a low fill rate: fewer than 5% of your contacts have a value for that field. You can still use the field, but it'll likely result in a small audience.

Yes. Open the customer detail side panel for the contact and go to the SegmentMatchExplanation tab. There you can see per audience why the contact does or doesn't match the filter rules.

The modal polls for the AI description and calculated reach for a maximum of 90 seconds. If it takes longer, the modal stops polling. You can refresh the page to see the final results.
