Preparing for the switch

Good preparation makes the migration smooth. Go through this checklist before you get started:

  1. Gather your account information – Make sure you have access to your Mailchimp account and that you have admin rights.
  2. Review your Mailchimp data – Take stock of what you want to bring over: contacts (active subscribers only), email templates and campaign insights.
  3. Clean up your contact list – Remove invalid addresses, duplicates and unsubscribed contacts. Segment your audience for an organized import.
  4. Decide which automations you want to recreate – Make a list of workflows (e.g. welcome emails, abandoned cart reminders) and note the triggers, timing and email content.
  5. Prepare for domain verification – Make sure you have access to your domain's DNS settings. Xendy will provide the required DNS records during the setup process.

Exporting contacts from Mailchimp

  1. Log in to Mailchimp at mailchimp.com.
  2. Go to your audience – Click Audience in the main menu and select the list you want to export.
  3. Export the audience – Click the Manage audience dropdown menu and choose Export audience. Mailchimp will generate a CSV file.
  4. Download the file – You'll receive an email with a download button. Save the file somewhere easy to find.
  5. Check and clean the file – Verify that all email addresses are valid, remove unnecessary columns and filter out unsubscribed, bounced or inactive contacts.

Tip: Exporting doesn't affect your Mailchimp account — your data stays completely intact there.
